Bramalea was developed in the 1960s as one of Canada's first planned satellite communities, designed around its own town centre well before Brampton's population growth caught up around it. Bramalea City Centre remains one of the area's major malls, and the surrounding streets hold a broad mix of established homes from the era.

Bramalea GO station, on the Kitchener line, and Zum bus rapid transit both serve the community, with Highway 410 close by for drivers.
