BC North
The energy capital of the Peace, built along the Alaska Highway.
The Area
Fort St. John sits high on the Alaska Highway in BC's Peace River country, a fast moving oil, gas and agriculture town with some of the province's highest average incomes.
The Peace region's oil and gas sector has long driven the local economy, from drilling and pipeline work to the Site C hydroelectric project on the Peace River nearby, and wages here consistently rank among the highest in BC outside the Lower Mainland.
Beyond energy, the surrounding Peace River farmland grows some of the province's grain, canola and forage crops, giving Fort St. John a genuine agricultural backbone alongside its industrial base. The North Peace Regional Airport keeps the city connected south to Vancouver and Calgary.
Housing tends toward newer subdivisions and acreages built to serve a young, well paid workforce, and prices remain a fraction of anywhere south of Prince George. For buyers chasing northern opportunity and space, Fort St. John delivers both.
