BC Interior
The Shuswap's houseboat capital, on the shore of a warm interior lake.
The Area
Salmon Arm overlooks Shuswap Lake's southern arm, an agricultural and tourism town famous for houseboating, a landmark wooden wharf and some of the Interior's mildest winters.
Salmon Arm Wharf, one of the longest wooden wharves on a lake anywhere in North America, juts out into the Shuswap alongside a protected bird sanctuary, and the Shuswap's warm, forgiving waters have made houseboat vacations a regional summer tradition for generations.
The surrounding benchlands support dairy, fruit and vegetable farms, and the city's Farmers Market and Roots and Blues Festival draw visitors from across the Interior each year. Highway 1 runs directly through downtown, keeping Salmon Arm connected to Kamloops and Revelstoke alike.
Housing ranges from lakeview acreages to in-town family homes, and Salmon Arm's relative affordability, mild climate and lake access have made it an increasingly popular choice for retirees and remote workers leaving the coast.
