Vancouver Island
A marina town beside Canada's West Coast air force base.
The Area
Comox sits on the Comox Peninsula across the harbour from Courtenay, a marina and military town anchored by 19 Wing Comox, home to one of the Canadian Forces' Pacific search and rescue squadrons.
19 Wing Comox anchors the local economy and community life, home to a Canadian Forces search and rescue squadron responsible for a vast stretch of the BC coast, and the base airport doubles as the Comox Valley's commercial airport, keeping the peninsula well connected despite its small town feel.
Comox Marina and the waterfront along Comox Avenue give the town a genuine boating culture, and Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park's heritage buildings and gardens host one of the Island's best known summer arts festivals each August.
Goose Spit Park's sandbar juts into the harbour with sweeping views toward the mainland mountains, and the Comox to Powell River ferry link makes the town a genuine crossing point to the Sunshine Coast, all inside a quiet, established residential setting.
