BC Interior
The Interior's tournament capital, where two rivers meet.
The Area
Built around the confluence of the North and South Thompson Rivers, Kamloops is British Columbia's Interior hub, a sunny, semi-arid city known for its grassland hills, sport tourism and easy access to Sun Peaks Resort.
Downtown Kamloops and the South Shore line the South Thompson River around Riverside Park and the Rivers Trail, with Thompson Rivers University's Sahali campus climbing the bench above on Summit Drive. Sahali and neighbouring Aberdeen, home to Aberdeen Mall, hold much of the city's hillside housing, with sweeping views over the valley.
Across the river, Brocklehurst and the North Shore offer some of the city's more established, affordable neighbourhoods, while Westsyde follows the North Thompson further upstream with a quieter, family oriented feel. East along the Trans-Canada Highway, Valleyview has grown into a self contained community of its own, close to schools, shopping and the highway.
Newer hillside development at Juniper Ridge looks out over Kamloops' distinctive dry grassland landscape, part of Canada's northernmost desert like ecosystem. Officially branded the Tournament Capital of Canada for its sports facilities, and less than an hour from Sun Peaks Resort's ski slopes, Kamloops offers buyers a genuine four season Interior lifestyle at a fraction of Coast prices.
