Fraser Valley
Mountains, rivers and a lake town feel at the Valley's east end.
The Area
At the eastern edge of the Fraser Valley where the highway meets the mountains, Chilliwack pairs an agricultural heartland with some of the region's best river and lake recreation.
Downtown Chilliwack's Five Corners and the Salish Plaza redevelopment anchor a compact historic core, while Sardis, a few minutes south along Vedder Road, has grown into the city's busiest secondary shopping and residential hub. Together they give Chilliwack a rare mix of small town main street and full service retail.
Vedder Crossing and Garrison Crossing occupy the former CFB Chilliwack lands, now a walkable, new urbanist community of homes, shops and trails minutes from the Vedder River and the Cultus Lake corridor, one of the Fraser Valley's most popular lake destinations. Uphill, Promontory's newer subdivisions look out over the whole valley from the foothills of Vedder Mountain.
East toward Hope, Rosedale keeps a rural feel near Bridal Falls and the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, and Yarrow is a small farming community with deep Mennonite roots. With the Trans-Canada Highway running straight through and home prices well below Metro Vancouver, Chilliwack continues to draw families, retirees and commuters willing to trade distance for space.
