BC Interior
Boundary Country sunshine where the Kettle and Granby Rivers meet.
The Area
Grand Forks sits at the confluence of the Kettle and Granby Rivers in BC's Boundary Country, a Doukhobor settled farming town regularly ranked among Canada's sunniest small cities.
Russian Doukhobor immigrants settled the Grand Forks valley in the early 1900s, and that heritage still shows in local food, from the borscht served at community events to the historic Doukhobor era buildings scattered through the valley.
The city's exceptionally high number of annual sunshine hours has made it a quiet draw for gardeners and small farm buyers, and the surrounding orchards and hay fields keep the Boundary's agricultural roots alive along the Kettle River.
Highway 3 runs through downtown, connecting Grand Forks west to Rock Creek and Osoyoos and east to Christina Lake and the rest of the Kootenays. Housing remains among the most affordable of any BC city, drawing retirees and families alike.
