BC North
A Cariboo gold rush town where two rivers and forestry meet.
The Area
Quesnel sits at the confluence of the Fraser and Quesnel Rivers on the historic Cariboo Wagon Road, a forestry town that still trades on its gold rush roots as gateway to Barkerville.
The Cariboo Gold Rush put Quesnel on the map in the 1860s, and the restored gold rush town of Barkerville, one of BC's best preserved historic sites, sits a scenic drive east along Highway 26.
Forestry remains the backbone of the local economy, with sawmills and pulp operations along the Fraser, and the annual Billy Barker Days festival each July celebrates the city's gold rush heritage downtown.
Highway 97 runs straight through, linking Quesnel to Prince George in the north and Williams Lake and the rest of the Cariboo south, and home prices remain some of the most affordable in the BC Interior.
