Vancouver Island
The West Coast gateway, where the pavement gives way to wilderness trails.
The Area
Sooke sits at the western edge of the Capital Region, the last full service community before the road gives way to the wild beaches and old growth forest of the West Coast Trail region.
The Sooke Potholes' clear swimming holes and East Sooke Regional Park's rugged coastal trails draw hikers and paddlers from across the region, and French Beach and China Beach offer classic West Coast surf and driftwood scenery a short drive from town.
Sooke is the eastern trailhead for the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, and its harbour supports both a working fishing fleet and a growing whale watching and sport fishing tourism industry, giving the town a genuine working-waterfront character.
Housing spans oceanfront acreages to newer subdivisions in the town centre, and Sooke's small town pace, dramatic coastline and lower prices than Victoria proper continue to draw buyers who want the West Coast lifestyle within commuting distance of the city.
