The Neighbourhood

Oliver / Wihkwentowin.

Immediately west of downtown, Oliver was renamed Wihkwentowin, a Cree word describing a place of harmony, by city council in 2023, reflecting the area's history as a gathering place before the city grew around it. Today it is Edmonton's most densely populated neighbourhood, filled with condo and apartment towers within walking distance of downtown and the river valley.

Getting around: Multiple bus routes and the Grandin LRT station connect the neighbourhood to downtown, and 124 Street and Jasper Avenue both run through the community.
