The Area
Kawartha Lakes is a single municipality covering a very large rural area, made up of Lindsay and dozens of lakeside villages and townships across the Kawartha chain of lakes.
Lindsay is the main service centre, with a walkable downtown on Kent Street, the Ross Memorial Hospital and a Fleming College campus. The Scugog River runs through it and connects to the Trent Severn Waterway.
The waterfront communities are the reason most buyers look here: Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls and Sturgeon Point sit on the Trent Severn system, which carries boats from Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay. Sturgeon, Balsam, Cameron and Pigeon Lakes hold the bulk of the recreational property.
The market splits between year round homes in and around Lindsay and seasonal or converted waterfront cottages on the lakes, the latter priced by water frontage far more than by square footage. Toronto is roughly two hours southwest.
