The Area
St. Catharines is the largest city in the Niagara Region, shaped by the Welland Canal that runs through its eastern side and by the fruit and wine country that surrounds it.
The downtown around St Paul Street has been rebuilt around the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre and Brock University's Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts, which brought students and evening activity into the core.
Port Dalhousie on Lake Ontario keeps a harbour village character with its beach, the historic carousel and the pier, and remains one of the most sought after parts of the city. The Lock 3 viewing platform on the Welland Canal lets you watch ocean going ships pass through the middle of town.
Brock University sits on the Escarpment above the city and drives a large rental market. The Niagara wine region, Niagara-on-the-Lake and the falls are all within a short drive, and the QEW runs to Toronto in about an hour and a quarter.
