The Area
Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan, laid out on flat prairie with Wascana Centre at its heart, one of the largest urban parks in North America and built around a created lake.
Wascana Centre holds the Legislative Building, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the University of Regina and the MacKenzie Art Gallery around its lake, and the park is large enough to contain marshland and a migratory bird sanctuary within the city.
Downtown centres on Victoria Park and the Cornwall Centre, with the Warehouse District just north holding restaurants and nightlife in converted brick buildings. Established neighbourhoods such as the Crescents, Lakeview and Cathedral hold the character housing, the last with an active main street on 13th Avenue.
Government, agriculture and the RCMP Depot, the national training academy for the force, are central to employment, alongside the University of Regina. Housing costs are among the lowest of any Canadian provincial capital.
