Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill runs north along Yonge Street between Vaughan and Markham, climbing toward the Oak Ridges Moraine, the protected ridge of glacial land that supplies much of the region's groundwater.

The Mill Pond and the surrounding older streets form the historic centre, with the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts and the Yonge Street strip just east. The David Dunlap Observatory, once home to the largest telescope in Canada, sits on a large protected green space in the middle of the city.

North Richmond Hill around Oak Ridges and Lake Wilcox has newer large homes and direct access to the moraine trails. Bayview Hill and the streets east of Yonge hold much of the established higher end housing.

Yonge Street carries frequent bus rapid transit south toward the subway, Highway 407 crosses the south end and GO trains run on the Richmond Hill line. The city has large Chinese Canadian, Iranian Canadian and Russian Canadian communities reflected in the businesses along Yonge and Highway 7.
